Our Founder:valli-murphy

Valli Murphy is the Founder of Cultural Intersections. In her role as principal consultant, she is highly sought after as an intercultural trainer and coach. She brings a wealth of experience in global business management, intercultural relations and leadership development. Her specialties include working with organizations and leaders to communicate more effectively and improve performance, and helping individuals and groups develop greater competencies to reach their maximum potential. Valli combines her expertise in living and working in various cultures with an exceptional capacity to connect with her clients and elicit high levels of engagement.

Prior to her career in intercultural relations, Valli worked in the international banking sector in corporate finance for the Swedish bank Svenska Handelsbanken, and The Bank of Scotland. Additionally, she worked as a consultant for the cultural exchange programs of World Learning and InterExchange for almost twenty years.

Valli is an award winning intercultural trainer in the relocation industry, and was the recipient of Brookfield GRS’s highest achievement awards two years in a row.

She coaches new trainers and shares best practices on intercultural training program design and delivery. Valli has been serving on the Board of Directors for SIETAR USA (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) since 2010 and volunteers as an organizational development mentor for local groups and SIETAR affiliates around the world.

Valli holds a Masters in Intercultural Relations from the University of the Pacific and the Intercultural Communication Institute, a B.A. in International Relations and a certificate in Latin American Studies from Saint Joseph’s University, and has also earned certification in Corporate Finance from New York University. Additionally, she is a trained facilitator in Cultural Detective®, the Global Competencies Inventory (GCI), the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES), and the Overseas Assignment Inventory (OAI).
